Well y'all it looks like fall is in the air! Time to drag out the leather and cold weather gear. Or maybe its time to freshen up the motor on your scoot. Or maybe even a facelift for the paint. (shameless plug) Whatever the case may be,
It's definitely time to enjoy the days and nights of fall. I recently had the pleasure of a day trip to Hattiesburg and down old 49 to the coast on a lazy Sunday.
If you haven't done this ride you should definitely try it sometime. Met some really nice folks along the way and had some good grub at a small town diner just north of the coastline. Thanks go out to the unknown Louisiana State Trooper who got a few of us past the pileup of traffic at the state line.
Its amazing how friendly folks are to fellow strangers who ride on 2 wheels. I met so many down-home hospitable folks along the way. Hell by the time we got to the gulf we had over 15 bikes riding together and most didn't even know each other. But, by days end we all were fast friends and exchanged numbers and addresses so we could all get together and ride again.
On another note I would like to mention the Steel Pony Express. What a leather fest! Just how many vendors can you pack into one muddy lot selling the skins of dead cows? There was definitely some beef on hand at Zephyr field. I did see some remarkable motorcycles and some neat stuff for the masses to buy, but, too many damn leather vendors. I just have one question as well. What is the definition of a "RIDE IN" bike show? I always thought it was a "show-what-you-rode" to the party kinda thing. Well I can assure you the $50,000.00 pricetags on some of the entrants that were wheeled out of trailers and from major chopper manufacturers put some nasty tastes in many folks mouths.
As for the rest of the festival, the music and the food were good. I missed the ride on Sunday due to other commitments but heard it was uneventful and that most enjoyed the view. Huh? I got my heart broken again by Karol not asking me to emcee a day of the event for the second year in a row, and after taking vacation days only to be not needed. I invited many friends to this SPE, only to be embarrassed by not being wanted. Maybe next year? I do wish to thank Jeff at the Pit Stop for a really great bike night on Friday and especially to the krewe at Bada-Bings for a most excellent party the same night. The band was great, the food was good, and the bartenders were awesome. Thanks Vicki! All in all it was a nice weekend to ride somewhere. Anywhere!
I have to add this month a big thank you to all the folks who come up on a regular basis to say they enjoy the magazine and enjoy reading this article. This is a labor of love and one I thoroughly enjoy. Thanks Gil for letting me be a part of a really great publication. After many years of writing for national rags this is a pleasure each month unequalled. I enjoy the freedom of saying some things that probably piss some folks off and some things others just don't bother to say. I just call it like I see it and nothing more.
On a final note here, I wish to congratulate Ivy Trosclair on his accomplishments. I saw some of his creations at the Steel thing and he is definitely up there with the best. Good job Ivy and krewe. By the way. When does the tv show Cajun Garage come out? Well time for me to shut up for another month. Enjoy the holidays and don't run over and reindeer. Merry Christmas to all and have a Happy New Year.
Ride safe and take care.

Howdy yall!
Glad to see that most made it through the storms without too much wear and tear. Hope for all of you who did have problems that your insurance company doesn't screw you too bad. I know of a couple of folks who got their homes flooded and their businesses trashed and to them my heart goes out to you. Just glad you and your families are safe and sound. Heard some folks over around Morgan City lost their rides. But, look at the good side, at least you made it out to ride another day.
Well on to happier moments!
I recently had the pleasure of attending the 911-memorial poker run hosted by this fine magazine and a host of area haunts. The finale was held at Legends in Metairie, and yours truly had the unique pleasure of
being asked to emcee the ceremonies. Well it was a hoot! The event of the day was the best babe on a bike contest. The crowd went wild as 17 contestants strutted their stuff for the applause and awards. Skin was in, and to the crowd's dismay, grandma types whined about the baring of breasts. So ended the skin show, and dancing, and creative drinking of longnecks took over. Next was the rest of the awards and winners who all went home smiling and happy. My personal thanks go to the beautiful blonde on the wall, who shared her amazing talents with yours truly. WOW! You are welcome on my ride anytime. Max, I wanna know who she is! Also I had a great time dancing with the cute little redhead with the well placed barbell piercings. The food was plenty and no one went home with a hunger pain. If you haven't participated in any of these poker run events please do yourself a good turn and go. They are a blast and always a surprise.
I also have had the pleasure of talking with some of the local GWRRA members (of which I am one)
And hearing about their food rides. These guys know how to eat. My dad, who is a member, recently relayed to me about an ice cream ride he went on which took them to the Florida panhandle for the afternoon and then back. All for the sake of some really great ice cream. If you want to ride with a well-organized alternative group the GWRRA is the one. Chapter K is the bomb.
Well I hope to see you all at Steel Pony Express. I will be there running my head and laying down some pinstriping for the masses. Hope to see yall at some events around the corner. The Halloween Bike Fest at No Problem Raceway, October 25-27, The 2nd annual Swamp Pop Music Fest and car and bike show October 27 at the Alario Center in Westwego, and also coming up is the 1st annual Gumbo Fest Car and Bike show at Angel Square in Bridge city on November 17.
See ya in the streets. Ride Safe
